Blessing Words for Happy Birthdays, Beautiful Baptisms, and Everyday Events
There is incredible power in the words we speak to our grandchildren. Speaking blessing words over them is a way to plant seeds of love, encouragement, and God’s promises into their hearts. In a world that often speaks doubt and fear, our voices can be a source of unwavering hope and affirmation, reminding them of their worth and God’s plan for their lives.
Don’t worry. You don’t have to be ordained clergy to be able to speak blessing words over your grandchildren. In the book of Ruth, there are several examples of regular people speaking blessings over their family and neighbors. See Ruth 1:8-9, 2:4. 2:12 and Ruth 4:11. Let’s learn from these examples and start blessing our grandkids on their birthdays, at baptisms and every day events.
Birthday Blessings for grandchildren.
Before you get to the birthday gathering, give some thought to your grandchild’s good qualities and then mention them in the blessing for extra impact. Are they loving, joyful, kind, energetic, enthusiastic, always looking on the bright side? Maybe they are patient teachers or natural leaders. Pick a few qualities that you feel God wants to increase in your grandchild and add them to your birthday blessing.
Tip: It is not cheating to write your blessing words out ahead of time. I, for one, would never remember all I want to say unless it’s on a piece of paper right in front of me.
Birthday blessings for young grandchildren.
You might want to keep this blessing short, depending on the age, and squirminess, of the birthday child.

Blessing words: some final thoughts
As caring grandparents, we seek to be a positive influence in our grandchildren’s lives and let them know they are important people to us. This can be as easy and quick as a two-minute blessing over the activities that are significant to our grandkids. What a great tradition to start for birthdays, the start of school, even a spelling test.
Bless you grandmas and grandpas.
