Prayer for grandkids online safety: then vs. now.

Dark Shadows. It was a daytime TV soap opera that starred Barnabus Collins as a vampire. The show revolved around vampires, witches, werewolves and all sorts of supernatural goings on. I could NOT understand why my mother wouldn’t let me watch it after school. Despite my pleadings, she was always a hard NO on Dark Shadows. And she employed her “parental media control” by turning off the TV and sending me outside to play. If only online safety were that easy today…

In most places it would not be wise to send kids outside unattended. As our communities have grown less safe, our grandkids have had to retreat inside. They connect to friends by text and through playing online games now. Physically they are safer but now they are vulnerable to dangers online. As grandparents, we can stand in the void, and pray for our grandsons and granddaughters to be protected by Jesus anytime they access the internet.

Prayer for grandkids online safety when gaming.

Lord today I lift up my grandkids online to you. I pray that when they play online games that they will not be attracted to the ones that are violent or explicit. Please let their friends be attracted to more wholesome games too. I know this is how kids connect and so I pray for good friends to game with online. Let my grandchildren keep their gaming in its proper place as entertainment and not as addiction. Don’t let them confuse games and reality.  I ask that you provide them other interesting things to do besides gaming so they keep it in perspective.

Lord, I pray that game makers would feel your conviction for inappropriate games and that they would repent. I pray there will be fun, exciting games that don’t involve shooting and death. Prevent them from identity theft, phishing and predators, cyberbullies or anyone who means them harm. Amen.

Is it weird to pray about the internet and online safety?

Honestly, I have a hard time imagining that the God of the Old Testament, who used frogs and locusts to torment Pharoah, would know anything about the internet (Exodus 8). Surely, He’s in charge of natural things like trees and rain but what about fiber optic cable? Is Instagram under the domain of the Almighty God? Can God answer my prayer for grandkids online safety?

Jeremiah 32:37 NKJV

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?

Romans 11:33-36 NKJV

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

“For who has known the mind of the LORD?
Or who has become His counselor?”

“Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?”

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Comforting words from the Bible and I do believe they apply to online safety. These verses give me confidence that God can see every text message and YouTube video that our grandchildren are looking at. When we join in prayer for grandkids, God can’t help but listen.

Prayer for grandkids online safety and personal accounts.

Here are the 10 most popular social media sites in 2024: Facebook, YouTube, What’s App,  InstaGram, Tik Tok, We Chat, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Viber, Snapchat.  I don’t even know what all of these apps are for but they get used billions of times each day all over the world. This doesn’t even include personal email, text messages and the apps that students use for school. Each one is a potential online safety risk and warrants our prayer for grandkids.

I can’t even wrap my head around it all but you know who can? Our God!

The eyes of God keep watch.

Proverbs 15:3 NKJV

The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
Keeping watch on the evil and the good.

Prayer for grandkids internet use.

Father God I am so grateful that nothing on earth is beyond your knowledge. No word, no action, not even a thought. Thank you that you love my grandkids with a heavenly love – far more perfect than we can love them here on earth.

Lord, I pray that your care and attention will surround grandchild’s name anytime they are looking at a screen. I include their phones, their iPads, and their laptops. Protect them from evil influences on their devices, but also computers at school, and devices of their friends. Lord let my grandkids find your truth and beauty everywhere they look online. Let them be attracted to Christian influencers who teach them about you in a way they can relate to. And let them be repelled by influencers who would make them feel less than in any way.

Please give my grandchildren real life connections with their family and friends and not just online friends. Also let them value your Word and connection with you above anything online.

Lord I pray they would be careful with their personal information and that you would give them discernment when their online safety is at risk. Protect their identity information and keep it private. Please let any pictures they post be modest and clean. Protect them from online predators and any scammers that wish to take advantage of them. Keep them far from cyberbullies whether they know these people or not. Thank you Lord for your love and care for us today. Amen.

May trouble be exposed.

Lord thank you because I know you hear my prayer for grandkids online safety. I know you feel the same way. Please expose any problems my grandkids might be having when they first happen so that trouble don’t grow. Jesus please help my grandchildren’s parents and teachers to be vigilant and clever in detecting any evil creeping near these kids.

I pray that they would not see things on the internet that they shouldn’t see including pornography and violence. I pray you will give them your wisdom to recognize trends that are dangerous, or harmful and lead them away from wanting to try these things. Please Lord be a shield around their hearts and minds.

Lord I pray that if my grandchildren are looking at bad websites or listening to wrong influences that you would expose any problems before they cause lasting harm. Jesus expose any one who is trying to deceive my grandkids about who they are or what they want. I pray that no child predator will even find my grandkids online. Thank you for your care and protection. Amen.

The internet can be a rough place.

When I think of trouble on the internet I think of the twin menaces of pornography and bullying.

A study published in 2023 by researchers at  Brigham Young University showed that in the United States, the most active pornography users are 18–34 years old. It also showed that 57% of young adults actively seek out pornography frequently (monthly or more often. Worse, many children are first exposed to pornography between the ages of 9 and 13. That is cause for much prayer for grandkids to be safe online right now.

Another report from the Pew Research Center in 2022 said 46% of US teenagers have been subjected to online bullying, most often related to their appearance.

Our grandkids need divine protection to stay safe online! Let’s be vigilant in prayer for our grandkids and keep them safe anytime they look at a screen.

They shouldn’t have to go it alone.

And let me grandkids feel safe in asking for help when they feel uncomfortable with things happening online.

I pray that they would not see things on the internet that they shouldn’t see including pornography and violence. I pray you will give them your wisdom to recognize trends that are dangerous, or harmful and lead them away from wanting to try these things. Please Lord be a shield around their hearts and minds.

his is a picture of a light blue laptop that is open. Two books are laying on the keyboard, one red and one blue book. The message on the screen says Be Safe in red letters. This is an illustration for the blog post Prayer for grandkids online safety.

Subject the internet to God’s will.

Lord Jesus, I pray that the internet would be a place where people can find you more easily than anything else. Lord let your people speak out and find favor on YouTube, Facebook, Tik Tok and all the other apps there are.

Thank you, Lord, that you are greater and mightier than even the worldwide web. Use it for your purposes Lord!  I pray that people who are using technology to scam and hurt others will be convicted of their sin and repent and turn to you. Please be a shield of online security around my grandchildren, their friends and all the children in my community every time they use their devices.

Thank you, Lord, that we can trust you in all things. Amen.

As grandparents, we can’t be with our grandchildren every time they go online, but isn’t it wonderful to know that God can? Each prayer for grandkids online safety reaches beyond our presence, covering them with wisdom and protection wherever they go—even in the digital world! So, let’s keep lifting them up, trusting that God’s love surrounds them as they scroll, chat, and maybe even do homework. Together, through prayer, we’re building a spiritual shield, reminding them that they’re loved and watched over by the One who truly knows them best. Let’s keep those prayers going, it really does make a difference!
