You know prayer is important and yet mornings are busy. So to set us up for success, I have written out 5 quick but important prayers for your grandchildren. You can say these first thing in the morning so that your grandkids start their day out covered in prayer even on those especially hectic mornings.

 

Morning prayers for your grandchildren on a busy day:

Thank you, Lord, for this day before us, and thank you especially for my grandchildren. I am grateful that you care about each one of these precious children. Please protect them from harm today. Let them have the food, shelter and clothes that they need and caring adults in their lives who teach them the truth. Lord, I pray that my grandkids will know you and love you and grow into the boys and girls you made them to be.

Jesus, as my grandchildren leave the house for their activities today, let your light shine through them to everyone around them. I also ask you to protect each one from evil and bring them home safely at the end of the day.  Amen. 

I wish I was more of a morning person, but it takes me a while to wake up. I get up and I want to pray, but my brain is not on yet. Ugg. In the Bible,  we have the example of Jesus, waking up while it’s still dark; going out to seek  His Father. On the other hand, we have me, clutching my coffee and struggling to even start morning prayers for the grandchildren in my life.

 

If you’re like that, too, feel free to use these prayers for your grandchildren. Use them to get started in the morning when you need them.

 

Let’s be the spiritual guardians for our family!

 

As grandparents, we may have more freedom to pray in the morning. We seek God because it’s important to protect the kids in our life from the minute they wake up. Otherwise, it’s like trying to make toast without plugging in the toaster. Let’s get ourselves and our grandkids spiritually aligned with the Lord for a great start to our day.

 

Prayers for your grandchildren’s day.

 

Good morning Lord. I am grateful to you for the chance of another day. Thank you for keeping me safe last night and for your breath in my lungs this morning. Most especially, thank you for my children and grandchildren. I love them so much and I am grateful for each one in my family.

 

Lord, I pray for the children of this new generation including   children’s names. God they are your children! Your generation! Let this be a day where they learn more about you. Let them always know deep in their soul that they are your chosen children. Please give them lots of chances today to see you at work. I pray they will be like spring seedlings – always growing towards your light.

 

I pray that your spirit will be a hedge of protection around them, physically and emotionally. Please walk with them through every step they take today. Surround them with honest, caring and moral adults who will protect these kids and influence them in the right ways.

 

Please protect them from seeing things they shouldn’t see and hearing things they shouldn’t hear. I pray that no plans of the enemy would prosper against any of these children. Thank you, Lord, for being our caring father. Amen.

Bible verses to use in prayers for your grandchildren.

Lamentations 2:20 NIV

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

 

Lord thank you for your great love for my family and your great faithfulness to us. May we never take your mercy and compassion for granted. Lord, again this morning, I ask that you  guide my grandchildren away from danger and lead them in the ways they should go. Let them make good choices today. Help them to grow spiritually strong. Help them to show your kindness and compassion in words and actions in all their relationships – to their friends, classmates, teachers, and family. Amen.

Psalm 24: 3-6 NIV

Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD?

Who may stand in his holy place?

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.

They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

Lord God, it is such a comfort to know that everyone on the earth belongs to you. You made us all and have made a path of salvation for all who ask.

God I pray that grandchild’s name will be able to stand in your holy place. That they will have clean hands and a pure heart. That they won’t trust in idols or be deceived by false gods. Please bless them Lord and deliver them from evil. Guard their spirits and don’t let them believe any lies. Let them be part of this new generation that seeks you! Amen.

Oops. Did you find yourself already in the middle of the morning and realize that you forgot to say your prayers for your grandchildren? It happens. Sometimes the demands of the day sweep us along before we know what’s happening. It’s ok. God is faithful and willing to hear your prayers for your grandchildren anytime. 

Lord you are our light and salvation.

One thing I ask today, and this main thing I seek, is that my family and I may live permanently in your house all the days of our lives. Teach us your ways Lord, and lead us in a straight path. Show us what it means to live in partnership with you today.

Thank you for the day you have given us today. Please help us not to waste it on unimportant things. Let my grandchildren desire to know you more and grow to be leaders in your kingdom. Amen.

Getting consistent with morning prayers for your grandchildren.

 

I will admit that consistency is not my strongest quality. I’m more like a puppy on a walk – start, stop, wander away. Become distracted, play with toys, maybe lay in the sun a minute. I wish I were kidding. So here are a few things I’m trying so I can regularly pray the way I want to.

 

Pray at a certain time.

Say prayers for your grandchildren at 9:00 every morning or as you’re driving to work.

 

Habit stacking.

Since I’m retired (thank you Lord!) I have time to sit and drink my coffee in the morning. I know I am not going to miss my morning cup so it’s easy to add prayer during that time.

 

Visual reminder.

Leave your prayer journal somewhere obvious so you will see it. Even sticky notes can help.

 

Certain days for certain prayers.

I pray for all my grandkids every day, and then focus extra attention on one of them each day too. That way, I’m less tempted to skip because I know it’s a certain child’s day. You could also organize your prayers for your grandchildren by praying for the boys on one day and girls on another.

 

As you begin each day with prayers for your grandchildren, be joyful that God is at work in their lives, even in ways you may not see immediately. Morning prayers are a powerful way to cover them with God’s love, wisdom, and protection. You might not be able to be with them every moment of the day, but your prayers connect them to the One who is. So, as you lift their names to the Lord each morning, rest in the assurance that He is faithful, and His grace will carry them through whatever lies ahead.
